The situation in Afghanistan is so extreme, it’s very upsetting to think of all those poor people, and how we have abandoned them. It’s so much worse because Britain has been directly involved…
I’ve called this cartoon “The Betrayal”.
The opium is harvested in Afghanistan by cutting the poppy seed heads, which then weep white resin, as in this picture. The future for women, and girl’s education, in the country is just horrendous. I’m old enough to remember America’s abandonment of Saigon, and this is like history repeating itself. And it feels so much worse, because Britain has been part of it.
Here, Stella Perrett illustrates the mood of the moment exclusively for uncancelled.
